#CalgaryExpo2018 wrap-up / #CalgaryHorrorCon2018 announcement

Well, the CHP team wrapped up it’s first real multi-day (non-literary) convention as a vendor/exhibitor at the CALGARY COMIC & ENTERTAINMENT EXPO this weekend.

While things started slowly (as they usually do on Thursday nights of big cons – not our first go-round, just our first with our own dedicated booth specific to CHP books and gear)
the crowds picked up on Friday night, and the interest in Coffin Hop Press was in full swing by Saturday and Sunday. We did a brisk business in books, sold a few shirts, a couple of hats, and had one hell of a time with new friends at the biggest, baddest Con in Western Canada, not to mention the shenanigans behind the table with the authors and artists that crept by for signings and visits. Here’s some highlights…

We had drop-ins from It’s a Weird Winter Wonderland contributor Laurie Zottmann (the adorable young lady with the punkish hair and the fifty megawatt smile), the reclusive Grady Cole (covering his face with books), the mysterious El Cuchillo (the masked gentleman with the impeccable taste in hat buttons), and the legendary Tom Bagley (the beardy cat with the pointy finger), cover artist for #WeirdWinterWonderland and the updated #TallTalesWeirdWest (our #1 Seller of the weekend), as well as our upcoming #KnuckleheadNoir anthology . Speaking of #1BestSellers… while we were at the convention, #Infractus by Sarah L. Johnson was riding high as the #1 book on the Calgary Best Seller list! Congratulations, Sarah!

So where to next? Rob will be attending a small soiree in town called the PRAIRIE SOUL REVUE on Wednesday night 8-10PM at

1011 – 1st Street SW
Calgary, AB

Where he’ll have copies of Infractus for sale. The show features Sarah L. Johnson reading from her new book, as well as readings by Jim Jackson, poetry from Kyle Flemer, and music by our old pal Jack Harlan! $5 Cover at the door.

After that… we will be at the CALGARY HORROR CON on June 2-3, selling books and swag. Stay tuned to find out where our table will be.

#AuthorsAMA #CoffinHopAMA with @AxelHow

That’s right! Our own head Coffin Hopper, Axel Howerton, will be conducting the first official #AMA on the new Coffin Hop Press AMA page! Want to know about the upcoming slate of CHP titles? Want to politely inquire as to why Axel forgot to say Happy Birthday to you on Facebook last year? Want to know what evil lurks in the hearts of publishers?

Photo 2018-03-15, 4 08 25 PM

Questions are open now, and Axel will be answering your queries, quizzes, and hot-button-issue-related conundrums starting this Monday afternoon. Writing, publishing, boxing, music, 80’s television… anything and everything. That’s the name of the game.

That means you have all weekend to get liquored up and think of the perfect bon mot to stump him with (it is St. Patty’s, after all). Go to or visit the Coffin Hop Press AMA page to get your digs in! Search #CoffinHopAMA

In the coming weeks we’ll be setting up A.M.A.’s with our writers, new and old, so stay tuned!
